Autism friendly playground-Grand Opening

Autism friendly playground-Grand Opening

Potential Announces Grand Opening of Unique Playground

Come to the grand opening of Potential’s new autism friendly and therapeutic playground, at 170 Pheasant Run, Newtown, PA, on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Children will be able to use the playground and snacks and beverages will be available.

Kristine Quinby, Founder, President and CEO of Potential, expressed her excitement: “This is the culmination of a three year project. Our vision has been to create a world where every person with autism can lead a successful life of value. We wanted to make this securely-fenced playground available to the community, free of charge, during evenings and weekends, when it is not in use by our clients.

Learning to play (with others) and playing to learn (social interaction) is a real benefit to children with autism. Simple lesson plans will be available at the grand opening and on our web site for parents to use with their children.

We made sure that every piece of equipment was specifically geared to encourage interaction with other children, or enhance other skills in their development. Examples are the multi-child swing, ‘walk the plank’ balance beam, standing seesaw and dual slide.”

Funding for the project was obtained through private donations and grants from Foundations Community Partnership, The Provident Bank Foundation and the Bucks County Commissioners.

line-height:normal;mso-outline-level:4'>Potential, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2006 by Kristine Quinby and helps children and adults with autism reach their full educational, social and emotional potential.

Stand Against Racism

Join us on April 27, 2018 for Stand Against Racism, a national initiative of the YWCA USA. Locally, the YWCA Bucks County joins over 750 sites nationwide to advocate and lead activities that deliver a clear message that we are on a mission to eliminate racism. Participants read and sign the Stand Against Racism pledge to do their part to eliminate racism in their community.

This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Mission, Our Future.” Voting rights and civic engagement are, and have always been, core components of racial justice work. As civil rights continue to be eroded for communities of color, we must work to support full access and engagement for women and girls of color in the political process. Throughout the campaign, we will highlight ways that we can be civically engaged and support the communities we serve; raise awareness about barriers to civic participation for historically disenfranchised and marginalized groups, many of whom are our
clients and community members; and share ideas for action and change
