Similar to businesses,
nonprofit organizations - in order to succeed - must operate under the same
basic guidelines as for-profit entities. While not primarily focused on making
money, nonprofits must generate revenue annually to cover expenses, further
their mission and pay staff.
On April 23, certified SCORE Bucks County
mentors will lead a workshop, “All About Nonprofits.” The goal is to enhance
the success of a nonprofit with review and discussion of the following topics:
governance, financial reporting, fundraising, staffing and planning.
SCORE mentor Joseph Lutes, who has spent more
than 30 years in the investment industry, working mostly as a Chief Financial
Officer of a $35 billion organization will lead the discussion as it relates to
governance and financials. Joe served as the finance director for three
separate nonprofits and has served on numerous nonprofit boards.
SCORE mentor Peter Niche
has spent more than 30 years serving as a board member for various charities.
He also spent more than 10 years on the executive committee of a board and
served as the executive director for more than a year. He will share his
expertise in the banking, finance and insurance; accommodation and food
services; technical and scientific services; and professional and business
services.
SCORE mentor Rob Purdy has nearly 40 years’
experience working in the insurance and financial industry sectors. He can
discuss finance-related aspects of operating a nonprofit, as well as business
strategy and planning and operations. He has expertise in various industries,
including manufacturing and industrial, public and professional organizations,
hospitality, health care and social assistance.
