BCSPCA continues lifesaving services to lost and homeless animals during COVID-19 crisis
The Bucks County SPCA continues its life-sustaining work 7 days a week during the coronavirus state of emergency. Essential staff and volunteers provide daily care and enrichment for more than a hundred animals at its two animal shelters in Lahaska and Quakertown.
Public hours have been discontinued, however critical services are still offered on a by-appointment basis, including pet adoptions, lost pet reclaims and animal cruelty investigation. Residents must call either BCSPCA shelter between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily to schedule an appointment if they wish to adopt or if they need assistance re-homing a pet. By carefully limiting the number of people in the shelter each day, members of the staff and public can maintain safe social distancing.
Here are three ways the community can help homeless pets in Bucks County:
1. Adopt! With the extra time at home, now is a great time to acclimate a new pet to your home. View available animals online and then call to learn more or to schedule an appointment to meet the animal.
2. Foster: More volunteers are urgently needed to help with litters of unwanted kittens. Starting in early spring and through the summer, the BCSPCA receives hundreds of vulnerable kittens found without the care of their mother. These little ones need individualized attention provided by trained foster volunteers. A typical commitment is 2-6 weeks and BCSPCA provides all the food, medical care and training. 3. Donate: BCSPCA is unable to receive donations of supplies at its two shelters during the quarantine. However, you can shop the online wish lists for cats, dogs and kittens and have the items shipped directly to either shelter. Please consider a financial donation to help the animals and offset the rising costs of purchasing medicines and other essential supplies.
